iOS7 Beta 3 and The Broken Phone App

The Developer Life

A friend of mine gave me the awesome privilege of being an Apple Developer so I could get the shiny, new iOS7 on my iPhone. It has been pretty much everything I expected. Cool User Interface. Buggy third party apps. Glitchy native apps. Overall probably not something I'd want to pay for but the fact that hardly anyone else outside of work (I work in IT) has it makes me feel cool, so I put up with it.

However, Beta 3 brought a big problem. I noticed that I was getting voicemails with no record of a missed call. What? I know, crazy. And unacceptable. I mean, messaging UI issues is one thing, but making people feel like I was ignoring their call when I actually wasn't? Not cool.

My first thought was to blame the Google Voice app for interfering with my Phone App. I made several changes to GV that did not resolve the issue. Then, I did what I should have done in the first place. I googled the problem.

Disturb Me Please

According to the internet, iOS Beta 3 may have issues with the Do Not Disturb function. So if you find that your iPhone running iOS Beta 3 is not allowing calls to come in, change your DND settings to "Allow Everyone" to interrupt. I know, it defeats the purpose of DND, but if the Phone app doesn't display incoming calls, it defeats the purpose of owning a phone.

I'm not going to go through the trouble of giving screenshots, the link to the article I found will be posted below. It has all that fancy stuff. Please refer to that for more detailed instructions.

Happy developing!

#litnerd Progeny

I'm a Parent (to be)!

I don't have much time for an extensive post, but I had to announce this with a literary quote about parenthood. Who could be more quotable than my main man, Oscar Wilde?

Children begin by loving their parents; as they grow older they judge them; sometimes they forgive them.
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
This quote takes the natural tensions between parent and child to the extreme in order to illustrate a message. At some point, love become intense. I hope and pray that I'm ready to experience that kind of love.

Klout and the #ManofSteelPremiere

I Got Klout

Thanks to Klout, my wife and I were able to attend the world premiere of the new Superman movie: Man of Steel last Monday. I know, it was awesome! The movie comes to all theaters today (Friday).

Basically, we were invited to the theater at Dolphin Mall here in Miami, Fl. to watch some chick and some dude interview all the actors as they arrived in New York for the first screening of Man of Steel. Once all the stars got into the theater we watched the actual movie "with" them, in 3D to boot!

Getting Free Stuff

Klout has given me free stuff before based on my influence in Social Media, they call this free stuff "Perks." Some of my perks include the following:

I know, those are some real, name brands. These perks are legitimate and very cool. My wife and I have had some serious fun as a direct result of our involvement with Klout.

What is Klout?

Klout claims to be a standard for influence. They measure your interaction and rate your social accounts on a scale of 1-100. Typically, everyone has a Klout score around 20-40. Then, as interactions and engagement increases, so does the Klout score. However, the higher your score, the harder it becomes to maintain and increase the score. Scores in the 90s indicates an uber popular figure/expert in their field. Two examples of 90+ Klout scores are Oprah Winfrey and President Barack Obama.

You can also specialize in topics, which can help with the whole perks situation. My special topics include only one that relates directly to this blog, the other topics relate to my Holy Things blog and my twitter account mainly.
  • Theology
  • Religion & Spirituality
  • Christianity
  • Disney
  • Health
  • Marriage
  • Road Trip
  • Blogging
  • Food
  • Movies

Conclusion

Don't get me wrong, I don't view Klout as the end-all measure for influence. I don't point to the fact that Klout thinks I'm influential on Movies as a justification for my critique of Man of Steel (go see it, but don't take it too seriously). But it's fun to see what social media says about your hobbies.

So check out my Klout profile. Join Klout. Get some perks. Have some fun. Enjoy life!

Have you used Klout? What do you think of it?

A free weekend

I know my list will seem segmented, but for this semester I need all the encouragement I can get. Seeing little things get crossed off my list gives me that extra OOMPH that I need.

Plus, I have a busy weekend ahead of me that starts tonight. I needed to finish this stuff ASAP!

This is a Networked Blog. Booyah!

So I'm a Little Late

Aside from automatically promoting new posts through IFTTT and Buffer, I really have not promoted my content much. I decided to try out Networked Blog and see if that increases my audience any. Both my LIS blog and my Holy blog are there, follow me on those sites if you haven't already done so via RSS!
